A Review of Kamila Szymańska, Leszno ma głos. Głos Leszczyński, 1920–1939 [Leszno Speaking: Głos Leszczyński, 1920–1939], Leszno 2024, 225 pp
Abstract
Presentations of the history of any locality can hardly be imagined without conducting a source search of the press, published in the times covered by the research. In the case of individual cities, this observation applies especially to local newspapers that were published in the locality at the time under study. Their informational richness and diversity are sometimes so extensive that on the basis of almost only one newspaper title one can sometimes be tempted to develop a solid monography of the history of the place of interest and the community living there. This is the case of the book Leszno has a voice. "Głos Leszczyński" 1920-1939 (published in Leszno in 2024 by the Stanislaw Grochowiak Municipal Public Library), which is, by the way, not only a study of this Wielkopolska town, but also a daily newspaper, on the basis of which an interesting story about interwar Leszno and many aspects of the life of its citizens was constructed. The author of this valuable work is not an accidental person, as Dr. Kamila Szymanska is not only a respected art historian and researcher of Leszno's past, but also the director of the local District Museum.
